There are 28 known amino acids that exist with 8 of them being essential amino acids. Amino acids are actually the building blocks of protein. The human body minus water has about 75% amino acids and hormones have 95% amino acids.

There are SO many-that it is impossible to list them all here-studies are being done so as to isolate certain amino acids towards specific body parts-functions as we speak by some very large genetic companies. As an example, genistein, can only be found in soy and is believed to be anti-cancerous. Leucine, Iso-leucine and valine are best for building muscle (anti-catabolics) Arginine, one of the main 8 essentials, increases sperm production, and is anabolic. Lysine, is for herpetic issues. Methionine is a transporter of these. I have a friend at the university of illinois doing research on THIS, and the use of hair and fish scales as the best, MASS, water purification system...lol Taurine is for mental clarity. Tyrosine is for a quicker tan...and alot of these have a few uses, but studies for specific groups of aid is cool huh? All of the above answers are INCREDIBLY wrong-if you don't believe me, look up some of the ones not listed in their post, from my post, I am not going to list about 400 that I know of off-hand here-but just trust me, I know what I am talking about-new ones are also being discovered every day.
