wait he stole my answer!!!!

3 phase more efficient than regular a/c units. my 4 & 3.5 ton compressors were on 40 & 35 amp breakers. ( regularly on 65 to 80)
usuall 2 - 110's, 1- 208, 1 - ground.
you can tell by looking at the weather head, if 4 wires not 3. more effecient cuz the motor gets hit w/ more juice higher amps/more effecient.

Poly phase means many phase.If you are talking about A.C. power it usualy means 3 phase.
