When I "meditate" i feel kind of heavy and a little relaxed, cant really feel my body much and my face tingles (because i'm breathing deeply and am not use to it) and every now and then i lose focus and sometimes a couple stray thoughts enter my head... i dont feel like i'm in a deep state of mind though... i just think i'm deeply relaxed.

How do i know if i am meditating properly?

Medititation is simply focussing your mind. If you are trying to meditate, and you find that you are able to release yourself from the things that you otherwise worry about, you are beginning to get it. Going into trance states and that sort of thing takes a bit more practice.

If you find that in your meditation, you are constantly interrupted by thoughs of the day's worries or other intrusions, you might try things like music or guided meditation tapes.

In general, if you are trying to meditate, you are meditating. Practice makes it easier and more fulfilling.

you are meditating!!!
there is no "bad" meditation-- I have been doing it since I was 12 (I'm 39) some days I have lots of thought run thru my head, other days I'm all blissed out & feel like I am one with everything.
you are relaxed, you can't feel your body, that's good.
losing focus is good...
there is no "perfect" way to meditate.

what you need to do, is follow one way, whatever way you are doing, or if you dont think that is right, read a bit more & try a few other ways & play with them... you may end up mixing a few or ending up going back to the original thing you do now...

You don't have to ALWAYS be in a "deep" state of mind- the practice of meditation is about focusing your mind & losing your thoughts--- there will always be some thoughts--- and when there are fewer, that's great, when there are none, that's SUPER,
that's all there is to it.

You will know if you're meditateing properly when you can't recall what you were thinking about and all the stress is gone. and deeply relaxed can be a great state of mind

When you meditate you should feel very relaxed, and thoughts shouldn't be entering your head.
