I watched a Fox News broadcast where military and political analysts rated Iraq to be far less of a threat than North Korea and Iran. Why is George W. Bush the last person to get the message? We made a mistake. We are in a civil war. It is time to get our troops out and put them in places that make strategic sense, such as South Korea, or just bring them home and try diplomacy for a change.

I learn something everyday. I did not know that North Korea was led by Islamic radicals. No wonder they are so hard to deal with.

Not going to go away? But, they were not in Iraq before we invaded. Saddam would not have allowed it. Do you really believe we would be fighting them at 7/11 food marts if we were not over there?

First and foremost, diplomacy does not work when you are dealing with Islamic radicals - Jimmy Carter tried negotiations and diplomacy for a year while radicals held the American hostages captive in Iran. It was a sincere effort - totally wasted on people who don't know the word "reasonable" - let alone "diplomacy."
These people have consistently demonstrated and proven that they can't even live peacefully with each other, let alone with the infidels.

There can be no doubt that if we pull out of Iraq, the terrorists will consume that country and eventually torture and/or kill anyone they suspect helped or aided the American effort to bring democracy to the country. They will be victorious and emboldened. They will then be sure that their tactics of murder and maiming thousands of innocent men, women and children was - and will continue - to be successful. Their demands are clear - convert to Islam.....or die.

Certainly, it would be a glorious day to bring our troops home, or even redeploy them in a less dangerous area. But then what do we do? I have absolutely no faith in the government (or anyone, for that matter) being able to defend this nation from the terrorists' threats and further terror attacks on U.S. soil.

And, agree or disagree, there can be no debate that bringing the fight to them is a hell of a lot better than fighting them in the cities of the United States - and make no mistake, we will have to confront them - they're not going to just go away.

Warner and Hagel are two of the more influential Republicans in the U.S. Senate. You can make sure that if they're saying it, other Republicans are too. The problem is Bush won't admit to a mistake; he's backed himself and the US into a corner and it seems like he thinks that if he admitted that it was a mistake that he will appear to be less a person.

Many of the experts told Bush that if he invaded Iraq and it went badly that it would break up the country and then we would have a difficult time extricating ourselves. He wouldn't listen.

Yes, the other countries do pose a more serious threat. That is why I think they have gotten Bush to back down from North Korea and are going to try the diplomatic response, as Rice said on Face the Nation this morning.

Its because Hagel and Warner are republicans that have common sense. Gotta understand the GOP got smart people senators, and also dumb senators all under one tent. I vote republican on economic issues. The forgien policy of Bush is utter failure because Bush administration cant see the world in unilateral perspective. Both Clinton and Bush igorned North Korea: therefore; Bush and Clinton deserve all of the criticism they get for North Korea. Premptive war on Iraq was sold on false information, and now we left are armed forces streched to its limits.

Even if he wanted them out, the last thing he would do is announce this, because it would cause more violence.

We are in a better negotiating position wrt diplomacy in Iraq if we have 150000 troops there. If we bring them home... not so much.

Plus, we can't leave until the oil is flowing and we have a military base there. Legitimate American interests should not be ignored!
