The people will low self esteem ask for dowry. The person however may be a millionaire or a pauper.
The dowry trend has chamged amonst the elite class. The son-in-law is given shares/stock in the company the F-I-L owns or is given a company to take charge as an MD or any other post.

Asking for a dowry is usally found in the middle eastren cultures..like pakistan,saudi arabia..etc.

now a days its for the bride to help if she leaves her husband or if he leaves her but best if spent on something that's for her like jewelry in the end its the brides parents gift to help them along in the start of there lives
