My dad just put in a wood stove, it can smoke sometimes and can realy smell,my mom also says it makes her cofff.

Can this smoke hurt your breathing or anything else?

I also get scared for my pets if they can die and breath it in.

Is it realy safe to have this in the house espeacaily if it smells like burning usualy??

Is there anything to help stop the smells like an air vent or somthen.

Thanks.

Yes the smoke from wood burning stoves can be harmful to your health. It contains Carbon Monoxide, Nitrous Oxides and other Hydrocarbons.

However the newer wood stoves are usually more efficent in burning the wood and will release fewer of these toxins.

To be safe you should also only burn seasoned firewood (that has been cut and dried for over a year and the harder woods burn better like White Oak, Almond, and others...

Make sure that you adjust the air intakes and damper on your stove to burn the wood completely and very HOT, the hotter the better. This should produce less smoke.
Another risk from not completely burning the wood is Creosote buildup in the Flu. This is cause by the wood not being burned completely and evidenced by excessive smoke exhaust. Creosote is highly flammable and you should have your flu cleaned regularly to prevent it's buildup.

I hope this has been helpful for you.

Well. If it could.. I would be dead long ago.... I grew ukp with a wood stove...It might smoke a little when you open the door to throw wood in but that is all.. I just cannot imagine the stove there in your room and it pouring out smoke 24 hours out of 24.... IF that is the case.. then yes, the smoke could harm you

Smoke is smoke. If you have smoke it is either the wrong type of stove or it is installed incorrectly. Wood stoves CAN and WILL kill you. If not done correct DO NOT USE IT i cannot state this enough.

Have your Dad check for an obstruction in the chimney, or flue.
Could be a birds nest, or dead racoon?

You should never smell smoke.....well, maybe when you first light a fire, but not much after that.....

inhaling any kind of smoke is not good for you. I sounds like the stove chimney is not drawing correctly. (pulling the smoke up )
