Several things that i have learned from my doctor and trips to PT. anti-inflammatory, such as Motrin can be tried, but you may need a script for flexoral, and vicadin. Also alternate ice packs and heating pad. DO NOT SLEEP ON THE SOFA OR LAZY BOY!!! Make sure you put a pillow under your knee's in bed. You can try to lay on the floor on your belly, and then push up with you hands as far as you can, arching your back up, this will help relieve a pinched nerve. You should hold this position for five seconds doing five reps, as often as possible. You may want to seriously reconsider work tomarrow, you really need bed rest for a day or two until the spasms let up. If you still are having intense pain tomarrow, call your doctor, you may have blown a disk.

A sprain of the muscles of the back means you have some of the heavier muscles of the body gone into spasm.. These muscles in turn fasten on to bones (spine, vertebrae) and will cause them to tip and compress the nerves exiting at that particular level...The primary mover is to get the pressure off those nerves involved and then treat the sprain as a sprain, with alternating heat and ice.. The heat to increase the circulation, the ice to reduce it.
The fastest way to get the nerve pressure reduced is; to see your local chiropractor. He will direct you as to the appropriate exercises to do at home and work. Those spastic muscles have to be continually stretched to prevent the neural compression from returning.

As a sufferer from chronic back pain. Back exercises is important. Flatten your back against the wall and scoot down the wall and hold as long as u can. laying down on floor pulling your legs up to your chest and flatten back on floor. Switch off between heat and cold. Heat will help loosen the muscle, cold helps the inflammation. Get a lumbar support for your chair at work. Stand as often as you can. YOU can also do chair exercises such as kegal ,ect... Also if you Can get a portable tens unit. Has four probes you place inside your shirt on your back where hurting and clips on pants. Physical therapy or a chiropractor can help if your pain persist. Best of luck to you

Go see your doctor first, and make sure nothing major is going on, then go see a Chiropractor or an Osteopath. Before they do any adjustments, make sure you get x-rayed to be sure you don't have a bulging disk or some other illness or injury that is causing your problem.
The back is nothing to play with so go see a doctor.
