I am 39 weeks and am looking into safe iduction methods , exspecially those that help in furthering the dialation.
If all you have to say is "Its not safe to induce" or "induction is wrong" Please Keep your opinions to yourself. I am to term.

Thanks for everyone's help.

For me, they gave be pitocin and broke my water.

They didn't even give me 1/2 the dose of pitocin before I was ready to deliver bc all i needed was that little push to get my labor started.

I was induced at 41 weeks with my beautiful 4 month old daughter, and it was a success!! First, they gave me the vaginal pill. This was supposed to help me dialate. It worked a tiny bit, but we then moved on to the Pitocin- this made my contractions speed up. At first, I wasn't dialating at all. Then about one centimeter, but then 2 hours went by, and I dialated completely! It was time to push, and the pushing period was only an hour and a half. At the time I was not dialating, Of course they told me that if I hadn't dialated at least 1 centimeter in 2 hours, they would have to perform an emergency C-section. That made me crazy! But I did dialate and the whole "giving birth" experience was amazing! Good luck to you, I'm sure it will be fine and you will have a wonderful, healthy baby!

One other thing, have lots and lots of Sex.. it helped me!

The website below has some great ideas, but use with caution. And if you're baby's not ready, none of those methods will work (same with Dr's inductions). I tried and tried with my last one, so did the doc, and ended up with a c-section. But with my 3rd, nipple stimulation, masturbation (the big "O") and walking seemed to work (granted, he was already 4 days late). I think it was a combination of being past the due date mixed with doing all 3 things that worked for him. But I have tried about everything else with no luck (5 pregnancies total).

Walking -While walking won't necessarily start labor, it can encourage labor to progress if you've started early contractions. Walking is often also good for encouraging a head down baby to settle into your pelvis. This will help dilate and efface your cervix.
Sex - This is my favorite natural method of labor induction during pregnancy. Men's semen contains prostaglandins, which are necessary to help ripen your cervix. Your cervix must thin and dilate for you to have your baby. I think this is a beneficial form of natural induction that also helps relieve stress for both mom and daddy.
Evening Primrose Oil - EPO contains the precursors to prostaglandins, substances your body needs to produce prostaglandins to help ripen your cervix. Some midwives rub evening primrose oil directly on the cervix during the last weeks of pregnancy to help the cervix thin and dilate. Keep in mind that placing anything in the vagina during pregnancy may increase your risk of infection and is not recommended.
Castor Oil - I do not recommend you try castor oil, though you will likely read much about it. Castor oil is nothing more than a laxative. It stimulates your bowels, which may irritate your uterus causing contractions. If you are not already dilated and effaced somewhat however, chances are you will just end up sitting on the toilet for hours after taking castor oil.
Spicy foods - These have the same effect as castor oil, but are a more gentle way of stimulating your bowels. You may get serious heartburn however, from eating spicy foods so try them at your own risk!
Blue and Black Cohosh -These are herbal remedies that when used together may help induce labor or help strengthen contractions. You should never use them however without consulting a qualified herbal or health care professional. There are some studies suggesting blue cohosh may damage your baby's heart or lead to uncontrollable hemorrhaging in the mother. A better bet is to stay away from these potentially dangerous herbs.
Aromatherapy -Certain essential oils including clary sage may help promote or encourage labor contractions in women. Try adding a few drops to your shower.
Acupuncture and Massage - There are many trigger points in the body that can help inspire labor. Seek the help of a qualified masseuse or acupuncturist during pregnancy for help with these.

If you are looking for medical techniques, the only advice I can offer is this- Make them break your water. REFUSE Pitocin. Pitocin sucks!!!

I was in the same boat as you about 2 1/2 months ago. I was ready- more than ready to have my baby at 39 weeks! I was determined and had sex every day and also walked 3 miles total every day and sure enough it worked. My mucus plug fell out on the 3rd day of this routine...and I went into labor that night. Good luck to you!

Everyone I've talked to sounds pretty in love with pitocin plus an epidural. Except my sister who calls it "the devil." I'm being induced Tuesday and I am not dropped, not dialated or anything. SO, lets just place it all where it belongs : in God's hands. Best wishes to you for a safe and quick delivery. Induction is fine, hon.

Unless you are 2 weeks or overdue then the doctors will usually say no to induction (unless there are complications.) As far as speeding up the dilation process at home, I don't think anything can help. You will hear people say "do this or that to sped up the dilation process." Or "I tried this and it worked." In reality the baby will come when he/she is ready. I don't know why people want to speed up the process of labor. Don't try to rush it.

PS I was 2 weeks overdue with my 1st kid when they talked about inducing. I ended up going into labor 3 or 4 hours before i was suppose to be induced.

Term doesn't matter if the baby isn't ready. If it's dropped into the birth canal you are fine, If not and you induce labor, get ready for an emergency c-section- you risk getting the cord trapped when the water breaks and rushes out. My doctor warmed me of this with my 3rd because I was tired of waiting and wanted them to induce. But the baby was still floating and not ready.
If yours IS ready, then you can usually induce labor with physical exercise..
Walking is the best, Sex has been known to work, also nipple stimulation can bring on contractions and trigger labor.
My boss told me her friend actually started labor by going bowling! lol
I induced my first 3 with hours of walking. The 4th my doctor induced for me right on his due date.
Good luck!

i am not sure which induction method is best . although i had pitocin with my third son and the pain of labor was so strong compared to when i had my first two strictly natural.i do not recommend pitocin to anyone.although if you do get this make sure you get another drug to help relax you. maybe an epidural.or at least stadol.which is a relaxation drug.not a pain killer. that is put directly into your iv. i love that drug.i was able to relax but still be able to enjoy delivery.well good luck!

Use parsley tea. And get an exercise ball. You can sit on it while watching tv ect. Roll your hips around on it, if the baby is dropped, it will help you dialate because the baby's head will rub up against your cervix. You can also use it during labor.... Good Luck! :)
