I would say see a professional, but it is not simply as easy as that despite what the first poster said. It will be with you with the rest of your life.
You will be given tools and ways to approach life to help you fight it, but it will never go away.
So yes, see a professional.

I found two interesting articles on how to get out of a rut. Both are briefly listed below - check out the links below that have each in more detail.
(1)
Stuck in a Rut? Here's How to Get Out
1. Have manageable goals.
2. Go ahead - argue with yourself.
3. Break the rhythm by changing your routine.
4. Ask yourself, "What are my obstacles to moving on?"
5. Make an appointment with yourself.
6. Your surroundings can have a powerful impact on the psyche.
7. Make bribery work for you!
8. If you're trapped in an emotional "loop", such as anger at a friend or sorrow after a break-up, try distracting yourself when you feel the loop starting again - grab a book, watch a movie, call a friend.
9. Relax. De-stress. Take the pressure off yourself.
10. You didn't think you'd get through this list without reading about the tried and true, take one day at a time.
(2)
5 Fun & Easy Ways to Get Out of the Rut
1. Do Something Differently
2. Use your Intuition
3. Nourishment
4. Perfect Day
5. Get Some Fun, Fulfilment and Freedom
I would also recommend seeking medical help &/or assistance (just to be on the safe-side).
Hope this helps.

Been there... I suggest you go talk to a therapist. If you wanna do talk therapy then you should call a psychologist. If you want to take meds try a psychiatrist. There are things you can do otherwise to see if they help...
Excercising on a regular basis is not only good for your physical self, but it raises your endorphins too so that supposedly helps. Drinking and/or drugs also affects depression so I would stop that if you're doing any. Eating healthy can also help. I've heard that St. Johns Wort can help - it's an herbal medicine, u can get it any drug store. Although I'd look up info on that because it may interfere with other medicines you may be taking. Take a look at the two links I've put in below for more info.
I know how you feel. I did talk therapy for months and eventually ended up taking antidepressants, which helped out a lot. Hopefully you'll find something that will help you too. Good luck!

Well Lets start by saying that if this has been an on going problem then you really should call your doctor and tell him or her whats been happening.
It could be something physical that's causing you to feel this way.
After a good check up from your doctor then you will be better able to find out how to deal with this.
I could say to you, well it sounds like this or that, but I,d only be guessing and like I said before your best bet is to start with a good exam from your doctor.
In the mean time try as hard as you can to get up, get dressed and get outside,it does,nt really matter what you do just get out of your home for at least a half hour a day and let the sun shine on you--------Sunshine and fresh air is good for you in so many ways.
I hope that you take my advice and soon are feeling energetic and happy again.

Hey Denise,
Depression is a sucky feeling and it can get the best of us. Although you do not want to do anything but stay in your bed you have to force yourself to get up. The worse thing you could do is to continue to be alone. Your situation wont change until YOU do something differently. I know you don't want to or don't even have the desire to be around another human being...I have been there. The only thing that changed me was me.....I use to stay in my apartment in the complete darkness for days at a time and the only reason my situation changed is because I decided to meet other people who have gone though what I was experiencing, began seeing a psychologist, and reading the Bible. That is what worked for me.....Good Luck and take care....surround yourself with people who love you and care about you!

Before you go self-diagnosing, try to rule out all other factors. Make sure you get enough sleep, exercise, a balanced diet, etc. Make sure that you don't have sleep apnea, or some other sleep disorder. Make sure you don't have chronic fatigue syndrome.
You can't just say, "I feel like crap, so I must have depression." There are lots of disorders that cause a feeling of lethargy and depression.
Any doctor that would put you on anti-depressants before doing a myriad of tests first, is a quack.

When you go to bed try to think of something fun to do the next day. Tell yourself when you get home from work you are going to take a nice walk, go to a movie, rent a good movie, go out for coffe with a friend, invite a friend over for a drink, go buy yourself a new shirt......always have some tiny reason to be excited, that is what I do, I am not ver wealthy so I tell myself that I am going to Bingo, or to buy a lotto ticket, take a walk in the park....and I am ready to go and get the day over with!

You need to go on a web site that explains depression and has a quiz that you can download take and then show to your family doctor. There are many medications out there to stabilize your mood so you can live a happy and productive life.
