It can be edited by anyone, but, it a good quick start for research, which should include other sources. Heck, even some books we read may not be 100% correct on a subject. Always verify information with other resources.

For the most part it's an extremely good reference work. It's particularly useful on things where the information does not change frequently and the subject is not controversial. It is much less useful for researching topics on which people have strong opinions, precisely because people may choose to edit in a manner that biases the information. It's a great starting point, but if you're researching a controversial issue, you need to take it with a grain of salt.

It's a good, basic reference source. That being said, it does suffer from the fact that almost anyone can edit articles to insert falsehoods and half-truths. Information in the articles should thus be taken with a grain of salt and should probably be backed up with other, independent research.

The one item I like about it is the Random Article link. I've found some rather interesting bits and pieces about the world that I had not otherwise considered.

Wikipedia is an excellent encyclopedia and I would recommend it for any kind of research. The reason why it's so successful and reliable is that anyone can edit it. False information will be challenged and corrected. If anyone can view and suggest changes, wrong facts are nonexistant.
