The biggest problems in the world right now are disputes that start from ignorance, misunderstandings, or differences. I know this is kinda sick, but in a true utopia, everyone would be the same. Differences result in clashes and conflicts, and since individuality just simply cannot be abolished, you're just going to have to accept that the world is an imperfect place.

As to how well our leaders are handling it, I believe most are doing the best that they can, or at least the best that they believe they can do. Most high-ranking politicians are just trying to please the majority, or do what he/she believes is right.

I have no alternate solution, simply because I can't think of anything that would make the status quo any better.

good education programs are very important, but i the think the biggest problem in this world today is poverty. Without an adequate income or family support it is quite difficult to acquire an education that would be sufficent enough to land you a decent job (a job where your yearly income is higher than the poverty cut off line). the candian government and many canadian businesses have setup different bursaries and grants that assist people who are impoverished or who just can't afford a good education (many of these grants and buurseries are not known of, by prosepective students).
Fortunately here in Canada we are lucky to have social services such as welfare, OSap, and other forms of assistance but these programs are limited in there assistance. What the canadian government should do is increase minimum wage to $12.00.
Some might argue that if people would get jobs instead of relying on the system the number of people who live poverty would decrease, but in all reality many people who are poor, oftern work two jobs just make ends meet.

A big issue right now is North Korea and their so called "nuclear weapons" They just launched a nuclear test which the U.S. saw as a national threat and there is a possibility of world war if tensions continue to increase. I don't think our leaders are handling it very well because the President declared that the U.S. had a right to remove the weapons and during a U.N. assembly, the North Korean representative angrily stormed out. I don't know how we could solve this issue and its not only North Korea because we just invaded Iraq and couldn't find weapons of mass destruction so removing "nuclear" weapons in Korea would be another big issue.

I would most likely be hard pressed to say terrorism, and no i definitly do not think the leaders are handeling it correctly. Although i am unable to think of many better ideas, it is obvious that we are just pissin' the terrorists off and making them angrier, so i don't think that will work...i could suggest an all out offensive but its not a good idea, so then thoughts turn to negotiations....those always have problems, what does this say about the world today?

I think the biggest problems in the world today are Racism, Religious Zealots and ignorance. These problems seem to be the catalyst for war, unhappiness and intolerance. Because of the nature of the problems governments will have a hard time trying to solve them.

The biggest problem these days is RACISM, becuase it's the root of all evils... If people didn't feel outcasted and hated by other people then they wouldnt steal, kill, destroy to try to grab attention...If all people we're treated equally, with love and kindness as a basic rule of treatment, then we would all love each other, and live peacfully in this world...World leaders are just making it worse for the people for starting wars, not giving people their rights, etc...

In my opinion, love should be spread, and peace would come after

The destruction of middle class America by right wing Republicans who, in the finest Hobbsonian tradition, seek to establish a class-based society where only the priveleged can succeed.

Solution? Remove the Republicans from leadership and re-establish responsible economic discipline like we had under Clinton.

The plight of the African continent. With an epidemic of war, disease and famines, Africa is really a humanitarian disaster. World leadership on the issue is somewhat weak and distracted. Many groups are giving strong support, but greater involvement from the US people and government is sorely needed.
