The Tigers have been in the 'zone'.

Some people could say that the Tigers need the R&R and that the rest will do them good.

Others may say that their momentum and their 'zone' could be compromised with the layoff.

Thoughts?

That is actually a very good question.

Yeah, Zumaya & Casey (along with others) need the rest, and will do them good.

This "zone" you speak of is one I dont think The Tigers will lose.
After a day or two of recovering from one of the biggest parties they've ever had I am sure Leyland will have them out taking practice and doing drills.

One thing Jim Leyland has preached ALL season long is to be prepared and ready to play. I think they stay focused and in the "zone"

I think it will help more than it will hurt.. A week layoff helps Zumaya's inflamed wrist.. it helps Casey's aching leg.. and it helps set the rotation up exactly how Leyland wants it to be.. Look for a couple of sim games this week.. It will hurt a bit because I do believe there could be rust heading into game one.. If the Cards win in five, the 'rust factor' evens out as the Series starts Saturday regardless.. However.. If the NLCS goes seven, that may actually help Detroit's hitters because it will be guaranteed that the pitching staff of the victor will pull out all the stops and that could mean some bullpen juggling for the begining of the WS..

However.. Detroit has been pretty even keeled all season, especially the pitching staff.. and with enough veterans on the roster.. I think they'll be just fine.. even if they were to lose game one.. They lost game one against the Yankes and were trailing late in the game of game two.. so they won't panic.. just chip away..

the rest will do them loads of good... the team is built around pitching, and the 6 days off will allow the pitching to heal all the aches and pains and be completely healthy come WS time... where the layoff really hurts a team is when a team is based on offense because if you go 6 days without seeing live pitching it screws up your timing... however, 6 days without pitching does nothing to pitchers except help them because they are used to going 4 to 5 days without pitching anyways

the tigers will win in 5 games

i think the six day layoff will definitely hurt the tigers...once you've got the momentum and you have a long lay off, the momentum stops...i'm not a tiger's fan, but the people of detroit deserve something good from their baseball team after so many horrendous years....

I think the rest to heal some nagging injuries will offset any loss of "the zone". Long rests tend to hurt hockey clubs, but I don't think it would affect baseball clubs.

It may throw off the hitters timing a bit, but the way that the Tigers have been pitching, this shouldn't be too much of an issue.

I think it will help. Guillen is gimpy a bit. Caisy may recover in time. Zumaya can heal. Pudge can rest his knees. Now the tigers can watch the national league series and work out a great game plan

Nah, I really don't think the time lapse will hurt the Tiger's at all. They have some players that need a little break right now to get healthy. They deserve a little break from the action. They have earned it in my opinion.

the layoff wont hurt them but they will use it as a breaak for lots of practice. And once the series starts there will only be a maximum of a one hour time change.

The answer is..."We'll see." But fans, like to boast ahead of their team's actual playing of the game(s).
