Does anyone else think like me?

I think older people should be encouraged to learn how to use the computer...Not for just banking but:

If they live alone...often that is very cruel ...so by even being able to use a site like this...they could spend time, helping others...

Giving all that life experience...and it would help to combat being lonely. They don't have to buy a computer...just use the Library as I do!...I have one at home, my 14yr old is always on...lol.

But, also they may not feel well and can even buy food on line, delievered to their home for less than $10.oo (well in australia)..
Not sure if other countries...and they can stay in touch with family...

I say lets teach one person over 50!!! to use a computer!
Whos with me.!!!

Sweet Pea, ( I say that instead of Honey), I think what would be a good idea if you interviewed a person 50, 60, 70 & 80 about their lives. You see every person is a library of experience. When a person dies a library dies with them. You will discover that you have much in common. Older people are no different than most. In fact I have a close friend that is 88. She has a habit of embarrassing me at times because of what she says, ( I am a prude). When a bad storm hit my island home She told me " s... happens" She considers women lucky (today) that they can live with a man and not get married. There are lonely people of all ages. Give yourself a life time gift try the interviews.I am 46 mother of a 17 & 22 year old. That maybe close to 50 and old sounding. I challenge you to help yourself get past a stereotype in your mind. My girlfriend's boyfriend (yes) can do any hacker proud with his computer skills. Being old does not = poor.

I have tried to teach the "other" how to use a computer, but he will have noting of it lol!

All joking a side I do agree with you 100 percent! If someone over 50 wants to learn by all means teach them!

Do remember though that there are those over 50 who feel that electronics are what is helping make kids dumb these days, as well as many are intimidated by a computer.

For instance my mother is older then her 50's. She is a teacher and taught all her life, she is not retired though retirement age has past her by some years. She feels intimidated by a computer. I even offered her a computer, I told her I will install it and stay a night or so to teach her how to use it. This I offered several times, no is the answer I always get. Maybe if I lived closer to her she would be OK with it, however I live several hours away. I do wish she would get over her fear, some day she may?

Sure, I'll have a slice of cake! 1. 50+ is usually considered old 2. Probably like after 5 or 10 years 3. A couple weeks 4. A couple months 5. Wine unopened can last a long time. It depends on the year and type. (my dad is a wine expert) 6. Just like above, as long as you put it in a celler 7. Maybe like 10+ years 8. I think a dog is considered old after 8 years 9. I don't know, never reallyu heard anything about it 10. 7 days 11. Ones from like the 50s 12. 3 years I forgot the coat: but again, I don't really know

Been there, done that! :) I taught my former co-worker how to do her resume and e-mail it, paste it into fields where it's asked for (such as monster.com, etc). She was in her 50's and was laid off after many years at the job. She said I was very helpful and I would be a good person to teach older people how to use the computer. I also show my mom things (such as how to save and send a picture) and she picks up pretty quick. She also loves ordering medication from Canada. She actually learned that from an older friend of mine!

Alas, my dad, the Luddite, refuses to have anything to do with a computer. Same with my aunt. My dad is re-married. My aunt lives alone but lives in a small town and is close with her cousin.

50? are you serious? 50 is old to you? You think an average 50 year old is some lonely old shut-in who can't go to the store and doesn't know how to use a computer? Hey, I know...Why don't you go up to the next 50-year-old that you meet and shout into their ear, as if they are deaf, "How would you like to learn to use a computer?" Let me know how it goes....

a lot of them refuse to learn about computers. my grandma picked up the mouse and tried to move it, like you would a chess piece. when we tried to correct her she became very irrate and threatened to throw the laptop in the canal. She says she doesn't have time to learn to use it, yet she does crochete for about 4-5 hours everyday, and is always giving people booties and scarfs and useless things of this nature, nobody ever even wears it
