Everyone has a choice, when it comes right down to it. I'd ride a bike if I had to.

I would choose the cheap car and staying at home with the children. I could always have the dream that someday when they grow up and move out I'll be known as the grandma with the hottest and coolest ride in town.

A cheap car, one the runs safely, that will allow me to spend time home with my kids would be my choice.
The problem is not just the car but also the cost of the house with couples attempting to buy to the limit and then requiring both to work to barely make ends meet.

I think that I would prefer to spend more time with the kids but that depends on how desperately you need a good car. Sometimes a car can be a very important thing for a family. I guess the main thing is think about what's best for the family/children.

id rather have the cheap car and a wife who stays at home with the kids.
what do you care about? your kids or a stupid car?
...just a follow up. SatinDoll. a 2000 ford focus is not a cheap car. thats a decent care even today. what do you considor a nice car? a $30,000 SUV? that is grossly expensive in my opinion.

I drove an inexpensive car until just recently. It was a 2000 Ford Focus SE - 4 door. It didn't bother me. As long as it was safe, reliable and not held together by rust! lol
