What were King Arthur's challenges?

Specifically in Sir Malory's "Le Morte D'Arthur." I'm really lost on what his challenges were. And if you know also, his character traits, reactions to disappointment/adversity, and his ancestry??? Anything would help, and it would be great if you could give me where you got the information! Thanks!

(I have to compare/contrast him to Beowulf if that means anything to you.)

King Arthur had to get the people to understand that they should follow laws and not fight over everything.
