I live in an apartment with no outlet outside. I want to plug in a strand of lights for halloween. Leaving a door or window open to run an extension cord in is out of the question. I'm pretty sure I've seen things that are battery powered, but you can plug a regular socket into them and run lights outside without having anything connected inside. I forgot what they are called and if someone could help me it would be great. I just need a way to plug in the lights when there is no outlet outside at all. And I definantly can't leave a door or window cracked to slide a cord in.

They sell battery powered halloween lights just like you are describing at the Bed Bath & Beyond near my house. If there is one near you look in there seasonal department up front by the registers.

Good luck!

You can buy battery powered DC converters. They can be found in auto parts stores or outdoor outfitters. They have to be charged up and will run the lights for a few hours at least.
