how do i copy music to my psp from windows media player?

ive connected my psp using a usb cable but it still says connect a portable device please help

First of all you have to make sure it is a PSP compatible cable. Just because it fist in the PSP does not mean it is compatible. If you already have the files in MP3 format then I would suggest you just use Window Explorer to transfer the files from your PC to your PSP.
