This study says 655,000 possible dead (450,000-700,000 range) from polling families with death certificates. 13% are from American air bombing. Bush is just white washing this scientific survey with a comment saying "not accurate" I also read in the Minneapolis Tribune that during the height of Saddam's ehtnic cleansing, 40,000 died in the same amount of time. Are we as bad or worse than an evil tyrant even though we meant well? Also, naturally, 50,000 would have died in this period if not for the war and that violent death accounted for 65% of the deaths in the study.

I'll just refer to the poll. According to Zogby (and this wasn't his survey), he is 95% confident of the methodology. What most are ignoring is that the cluster sampling was conducted throughout Iraq, not just in Baghdad, and this is one reason for obtaining a much higher count than with those surveys concentrated in Baghdad.
No one is able to physically count the actual deaths throughout Iraq, so every estimate is just that. However, given what information we have about this and the other estimates, I would certainly be inclined to accept a MUCH higher figure that the administration's.
But as with so many political issues, accuracy seems to matter little. If you believe in the war and support the administration's policies, you have a motive to minimize the body count (in fact, the military from day one avoided counting Iraqi deaths). If you are against the war you are more inclined to accept the higher estimates.
If you are a scientist conducting a poll, you use the best methodology available and let the data speak for themselves. The researchers appear to have been very thorough and committed to a scientific study, and I suspect their results are much closer to the truth than the administration's.
If the administration really wanted a reasonably accurate count, they could get it by hiring experienced researchers, but I fear that they prefer not knowing.

Bush said 30K two years ago. There were 2700 this past September alone so his numbers are off a little.
BTW. If anyone is tempted to say that "it's the insurgency that's doing the killing" or "it's Arab's killing Arab's, not US troops" remember that these Arab's wouldn't be killing other Arab's now if GWB had not made the decision to go into Iraq. He was the catalyst so it's on his head. No amount of spin or rationalization will change that.

Would you be happy to set back and let terrorist have their way? You sound like someone who sees others being beaten, kicked killed, and wouldn't lift a hand to help. Just set back as long as they leave you alone.
Where would you be if Hitler was left alone? Many good men died for the freedom you have today. Thank God for men like Bush who is trying to bring about a better way of life for many in other countrys.
Sad to say but people like you will not wake up until it is to late. Soon some country will use a nuclear bomb and if you think it is bad now.

Politics - the feast of fools !!! Your right to read a Newspaper, speak english (American), spend money on most of the things you want, and even, speak your mind on the war in Iraq, is attributed to those same people, who have died in all the wars ever fought for America. Freedom has a price - that's how it is. The extremists of the Muslim religion are not done yet with North America. They want us all to convert over to Islam or die. ( There are no guarantees that you won't die anyways if you convert over !) We have enemies in this world, there, who want to take your life and control it . That's why we have not been invaded by the Russians during the "cold war" because they knew there are people in North America who will fight back.

655,000 dead from a poll? I would not trust a poll to for any thing. A lot of people died in WW2 maybe we should have left Hitler alone. If i lived under the thumb of either of them i would pray for help. I would prefer death to bondage.
This poll was done by people at a desk on a phone, the same people that you hang up on when they call your house. You would trust a person on a phone more than the men and women on the ground?

The saddest thing about all this is that we have leaders, Bush and Blair who profess to be Christians fighting 'Islamofascists' and they have no inclination whatsoever to tell the truth or admit that their futile war has been a disaster.
What is Christian about their actions?
Which Christians here are willing to support these genocidal fools?
Enough surely is enough.

While it is sad & ludicrous that Bush would dismiss the 655,000 dead figure, it is also a little telling that apparently he feels that 30,000 dead is acceptable! Is it not?

This is a perfect example of what a blood thirsty war monger we have for a president. Who could possibly justify such a thing in their mind? He is a pathetic, heartless son of Satan.

don't have enough information to form an opinion one way or the other. and most informed people I have read feel the same way. Bush said he doubted it--that is just political. When I get good information I will form an opinion.
Why did you think it was so important that you posted it twice?
