I may be wasting points and I'm far from a mean person but I've noticed alot of people like to answer questions with smart answers such as: "We're not doctors, so quit asking stupid questions!" or answers like, "Why are you asking such a dumb question?" Yahoo! Answers, as I see it, is a place where teenagers and adults should be able to come and get opinions from others. If you don't have an answer to a question, simply don't post. If you suggest they see a doctor or ask a family member, etc. that's answering a question but to be rude and crude, that's uncalled for. We're all people and even if it is through the internet, we all have feelings and words do hurt, even if you say they don't. Some may ask stupid questions, but be an adult and don't reply if you can't give a nice response. We're here to help others, not critisize others. We have people at home and around our areas to critisize us. We come here to get honest, nice opinions. Just a little rant. :)

Like I said, I'm far from a mean person, and thank you for the response so far. I just believe if you are intelligent to use a computer you should be intelligent enough to realize everyone has feelings and that people come here for REAL answers even if people do post questions to get attention, we shouldn't give them that attention, we should be attentive to the REAL questions. We're mostly/all adults and we should all act like adults and carry our answers with the respect that we would want to recieve from others.

I agree. People will post want they want and they ARE free to do so, it was just a rant saying how I felt but atleast I'm getting real responses and not ignorant ones. I know people will be rude, people will be ignorant, but atleast it's a sigh of relief, that the few people that have responded, I know now, there is hope. There are intelligent, kind people out there! :)

I also think when I said, "When you tell someone to go to the doctor" I was saying thats a GREAT thing, that's an answer, it's not a smart answer, it's a true, REAL answer that they may need to hear from others for it to really hit them that they need to go. :)

That is a good rant. Here are my thoughts on that. (and you can quote me).
The only dumb question is the question that was NOT asked.
But I am a bit surprised when I see a question here that sounds like a dire emergency... so why they were not on the telephone with 911 is beyond me.... HEY, if you are bleeding... CALL the Emergency Number.

Well, NOT EVERYONE wants an Honest opinion. I gave 2 honest opinions trying to help and Y pulled my answers saying they offended or insulted people. I don't think they did. If you want an honest opinion and you get one, you should be prepared for the answers. Even if you don't like what the person says. After all most answers are just that peoples own opinions.
Yes, I do agree a LOT of people on here are very rude but that's life. They are like that EVERYWHERE. There is no getting away from them.
Another thing, Once I answered a question with an honest helpful answer. Thinking the person really didn't know the answer and I got made fun of because the person asking the question said they were joking. Not take the question to serious. How lame was this person? So you never know just how to help.

And that is what so many of us give.
But there are ways of saying things and ways of saying things. You are right, I get upset when someone say "why are asking..."
But when it comes to letting someone know they need professional help, that is not a bad thing.
And if you are going to share your own experience with an aspirin, over-the-counter drugs or even prescription drugs - it does not hurt to let the person know - that you aren't a doctor, and perhaps a doctor would listen and prescribe a routine of some sort. Know what I mean? I'd hate to tell someone take an aspirin and find out they had a bad allergic reaction and died.
So, good to give your own opinion - but also good to preface it with see a doctor.
But nicely.
Thanks for letting us rant too! Not a waste of any points.

I see your point, partially. There are a lot of people that ask medical questions that are way beyond getting advice from the average joe on the internet. A lot of the time they need to be told to go to the dr or else they'll end up burrying their toenail clippings in the back yard to cure pink eye. I think it's good when someone can get some good advice but if the condition sounds serious, I hope there's always someone to tell them to go to the dr.

You hit the nail on the head. Good heavens, can't people just be nice? If you want to be a insensitive jerk, then go to a chat room & bug someone who wants to talk. Here, people want answer's so they don't have to get a proffesional to do it. If 20 people answer your question about a medical thing & 19 of them have had it happen, then it's gonna put your mind at ease. I just totally agree with you.

Your question seems to address the issue of why some people seem to be more generous with information than others, which is quite the vexation for all of us, frankly. It may seem ironic that those who feel the least secure fight most for security, ending up often rich and powerful...on the surface, anyway, but when they won't share with others, they betray but pathetically puny and shrivelled hearts hardened by more than they could apparently handle in life, after all...

Welcome to the internet.
I agree with much of what you're saying, but theres little point in complaining. Anyone can use the net and they are free to post what they please. Its the way its always been, and nothings going to change. Just as in real life, there will be plenty of idiots around that enjoy abusing other people... the difference is that its so much easier on the net as its not face to face. All you can really do is grin and bear it.

Also, I don't think you should post an answer when others have already given a good answer to the question, especially for a fact-based question. On an opinion-based question, the asker will probably count up how many pros and cons s/he has, so your opinion counts if it was asked for and it's relevant to the question.

Yes. Also the people who answer with nonsequitors just to get the points.
Also people (especially in science, where answers are right or wrong) who clearly do not understand but give an answer in confident terms to someone who might not know enough to separate the useful from the wrong. If people are not sure they should either not answer or in their answer indicate they are not sure.
