Well, as the saying goes "What goes up must come down", so yes...those bullets do land and could still injure someone. I don't understand what people think is happening to those bullets when they fire them in the air.

The bullets fired into the air are still very dangerous. Usually people hold the gun so that it is fired at an angle, if not a small one, so it travels away from the shooters. There have been instances where a bullet could travel up to a mile and hit with a lethal force in people. Mythbusters looked at this problem so you could watch it for more info.

Yes, bullets shot in the air can still come down and kill someone. I don't know if you know sports but Stephen Jackson of the Indiana Pacers shot a gun into the air a few times I believe and he is getting in trouble for it. According to an officer, he said those bullets he shot could come back down with speeds around 90 mph.

The lead slugs don't explode after being fired. They shatter, splinter, spread out, or become deformed in some manner after hitting something at however many mph they are travelling. Just figure that your round, when fired, does not have enough velocity to escape the Earth gravity and therefore will eventually come back down some where.

myth busters figured out that if the bullet is fired straight up and comes straight down the terminal velocity is not enough to kill someone it equals about the same force as shooting a BB gun into the ground at point blank range . however most are not held exactly straight up at 90 degree angle so the trajectory would be curved and could do more severe damage if it his before it loses its velocity

Don't you watch mythbusters? They did a show on this and showed that it would not come straight down because there are to many factors affecting the bullet, Wind, temperature, air pressure and many others. It would still come down, but more or less randomly.

on an episode of csi, some angry guy in a neighborhood shot his gun in the air to scare away some dog or something, and the bullet came back down a few houses down from his and killed the woman that was in the house. granted, this is csi, but it could happen. but no one start freaking out now b/c its illegal to shoot a gun in a neighborhood or any rural area...
