Monterrey, Mexico is in the state of Nuevo Leon, not Tamaulipas (they're next to each other), however, to get to either McAllen or Laredo, it's easier and faster to cross from Tamaulipas.

Laredo is slightly closer, it's about 2-2.5 hours and McAllen is 2.5-3 hours from Monterrey. Depends on the traffic.

Laredo Texas,
Monterrey Tamaulipas I think it's what you are asking. Laredo Tamaulipas is like 2-3 hrs to there and Laredo Texas is across Laredo Tamp.

Well, I had trouble finding maps with mileage, but as the crow flies, they are almost the exact distance, 133 and 137 miles, respectively.

You might ask AAA for assistance, I don't think you have to actually BE a member to ask for something as simple as this.
