Well, she obviously knows the risks involved with having an affair due to her occupation. And as a result, she is probably very good at seeing through other people's lies and picking out the cheaters and their habits. Which really doesn't affect her ability to handle your wife's case. She's not cheating with you, is she? Or the judge? or your attorney? That would pose an ethical dilemma. Otherwise, I agree with others, it has nothing to do with her ability to handle your wife's case. It's your wife's choice. If it's a small town, I'm sure everyone knows.

I think that decision should be left up to your wife. Whether or not the attorney can remain unbiased is another story. With the town being so small, I'd also consider a judge's perception of this attorney. That alone would make me consider getting other representation.

RE: How often does having an affair with a married man end up in him leaving his wife? I am a 52 year old woman and was divorced last year from my second husband. The man I've started the affair with also knew my husband and has been a sympathetic ear once in a while since he left. Recently we made plans to secretly meet and have sex. He's been married to the same woman...

If she doesn't fire her, the attorney should recuse herself from the case, in that she's not very ethical and is probably about to get divorced herself.
And how is it that she's able to carry on an affair in a small town, and her husband and the other man's wife don't know about it?

Just get word, quietly, to the court, and your lawyer. It'll kill her credibility in court!
