Breast is beast. Breast milk has so many more vitamins that a baby needs. Breast fed babies get sick less often and have fewer ear infections. My kids were breast fed and they were very healthy my step son was bottle fed and was constantly sick with numerous ear infections and many fevers and colds.
I think however people choose to feed their baby is fine however formula fed parents cannot say it is better or healthier. And something to think about all other mammals breast feed we are the only ones that have the choice not to. It is the natural way to feed any baby.

BREAST IS BEST!!! Breast is best. How can some scientists in a lab recreate what mother nature has perfected?? Don't let Nestle tell you what is safe and proper for your baby. If you compare the first 10 ingredients to a McDonald's milkshake to formula, they are practically identical! Mother nature has make breast milk to be the very best for a baby so why go against her nature? Unless your wife is on certain medications that are not safe for breastfeeding, don't let *ANYONE* try to convince you otherwise. Your wife is doing the best for her baby by breastfeeding!!! My son is two (still nursing) and has never had an ounce of formula and has NEVER ever had a cold, ear infection or any other illness and I say its because he's been breast fed. Not everyone nurses for several years, but even if your wife breast feeds for 3-6 months (the longer the better) its better than nothing! Good luck!

Breast feeding is best because it gives the child the colostrum the child needs to ward off infections. It's much healthier for the baby. Formula is used when the baby's mother doesn't have enough milk to feed the baby or is used after the first three months of breast feeding if it is to painful for the mother to bear. I'll tell you those kids really latch on tight and it is painful to some mothers.

The theory is that breast feeding helps build a healthy immune system, think about it, if women were not meant to breast feed then why do the breast function and produce milk after giving birth, how can a man made product be better for the baby, when mom has all it needs?

Breast feeding is best. Even formula companies admit that breastmilk is best and that they are unable to replicate a formula equally as good.
There is a completely different bond that takes place between a mother and a child she is feeding from milk she produces. (bottle fed babies bond w/mom but it is different).
Breastfed babies learn how to determine for themselves when they are full and don't have to have someone egging them on to eat til the very last drop of formula is missing. It is a natural laxative and so they don't suffer from colic the way bottle feds do.
They are healthy and not obese from formula. The milk is always fresh and the proper temperature and always exactly what baby needs. Like fruit on a tree that gets sweeter the longer it stays on the vine. A child who is able to nurse and has that closeness with its mother benefits. The antibodies from the breastmilk cannot be found in formula. The rubber nipple is easy for the baby to use and doesn't require him to use all of the jaw muscles that a nursed baby does. It is good for him orthodontically.
Remember that in Breast milk the milk has a consistency of skim milk in the beginning and progresses to a richer milk as the infant continues to suckle culminating in a creamy sweet milk called the hind milk. When the infant reaches that milk he knows that his feeding is done. When the breastmilk is pumped the hind milk floats to the top and thus the infant thinks he has finished his feeding early on. Pumping also interferes with milk production.
I have yet to meet a mom who has breast fed that believes formula is best. However, I have met many who never nursed who think formula is best. In any event it is best to just love the child and nourish him.

If a woman breast feeds, at least for several months, she not only nourishes the baby's hunger, but she gives him much-needed immunities that will help him be healthier. I breast fed all three of my kids (they are 15,18,21 now) and they have seldom been sick, so I attribute a lot of their good health to that. This is something I heard from my doc way back when I was pregnant. I'm sure formula is better now than it was then, but I'm of the opinion that anything 'natural' is better than man-made.

People from both camps will push their opinion, but ultimately what works for your child is best.

Breastmilk is the "perfect food" for infants and provides them with essential nutrients to build their immunity. Breastmilk is free and always available, too.

However, formula allows mom a little freedom. Another added benefit is that a child will have firmer stools when on formula.

I breastfeed my five month old child and have since he was born. I have been trying to get him to take formula for a feeding a day, and the kid refuses because he hates the taste of it. If your wife is comfortable breastfeeding I would recommend that she do so, but that you take a feeding a day and give your child a bottle of formula. I wish that I had done this to ease the transition.

Best of luck!

Breastmilk is natural. It's as easy as that. Also, if she needs to feed the baby and you aren't home, no problem! As long as she's there, so is the food. If she is not having any problems, stay with the boob!
The formula companies give a lot of people money to endorse their product, when you left the hospital, the cute baby bag they gave you? From the formula company! The company won't give the hospital all this free stuff w/out expecting some endorsement in return!

Breast feeding is by far much better for your newborn child due to the fact that they get antibodies from the mother thru breastmilk. This is something that formula dose not carry. these anti bodies are very important for the child to develop immunities to certian types of diseases. all three of my children were breast fed and then switched to formula when they would no longer take the mothers breast or started teething.

Breast milk is the ideal form of nutrition for newborns, but for mothers who are unable to breastfeed or who decide not to, infant formula is a good alternative. If you feed your baby with a commercially prepared formula, be assured that your baby's nutritional needs will be met. And you'll still bond with your baby just fine. After all, whether with breast milk or formula, feeding is an important time of connection between mother and baby.

The decision to breastfeed or formula feed your baby is a very personal one. But here are some points you may want to consider as you decide which is best for you and your new addition.
