Here is a fun and simple painting project that turns out quite impressive. Paint a small unfinished wooden toy chest black leaving an oval on the top unpainted ( you will use this later to personalize the chest ). Using cotton swabs ( buy the name brand because you will get much neater results ) dip the swab in some yellow acrylic paint and paint dots all over the black portion of the chest, not too close together. Using a disposable plastic plate or lid as a pallet, squeeze out small amounts of about 10-12 different colors of paint and make little flowers around the yellow dots with the swabs, about 5 or 6 dots will fit around each yellow center. When you have covered the chest then carefully paint the oval in a light color like pink and make a "wreath" of the same type flowers around the oval. Paint a name in the oval with a black paint pen or a liner brush dipped in black paint. When it is dry, apply a couple of coats of acrylic craft varnish and you will have a cute toy chest that looks like it took more effort than it really did.

You don't say but your leader should be helping to guide you into choosing what you are going to do. Just go to a craft store like Michael's and you will find a whole lot of craft projects to do. You can paint wood, make jewelry, on and on.

I used to teach sewing to 4-Her's when I was younger, so of course I would recommend something like a mini quilt or a crafty project you can use around the house.
There are tons of free patterns on about.com for both, with lots of helpful how to. They also have some really cute stuffed animal patterns.

I saw this project on Carroll Duvall once where you put a piece of acetate over a famous art print like Van Gogh's Starry Night, then you put saran wrap over that and start matching and covering the art with polymer clay. Van Gogh works well because his art is real chunky. Any way you keep filling it in with small pieces of clay until it is complete and a replica of the original. Then you carefully put another piece of acetate on top flip it over, remove the print, acetate and saran wrap, then flip it onto a baking sheet and bake according to directions. When done, it should be a solid piece of art that you can frame or display on an easel. I can't wait to try to do this myself.
If not this project, my vote is still for sculpting with clay.

Wait until you have tried some of the different crafts and then pick the one you like best.
Then come back and ask ;-)
(I love needlework so I'll try to steer you that way!)
