I do not get girls (maybe some guys but I dont know any that do) get grossed out and get frightened by bugs but are afraid to squish it?

I wonder if it is because the cultural attitude that women need a 'strong burly man' to protect them from harm.

How about instead of getting emotional about it, think of ways to get rid of the bug?

Kudos to girls that actually go and squish it.

Thoughts and opinion on bug and the bigger issue of cultural portrayal of women are welcome.

I prefer to catch the bug and put it in a better location if possible. (I don't do spiders, though.) My brother, a grown man, is terrified of any type of bug. My husband, a future veterinarian, cannot stand bees and hornets. So, I guess I would have to say that in my case, I find the question a little stereotypical.

Girls being afraid of bugs is an over-used stereo-type, but unfortunately sometimes an accurate one. Girls who squeal at the sign of a beetle usually just want attention, though. Personally I don't really favor bugs, they're not the most good-looking little creepy-crawlies, but I'm not squeamish bout squishin em. I don't usually though. If a spider runs across the room, I just leave it alone. I'm not a animal lover fanatic or anything, I just don't enjoy squishing them for no reason besides them jus bein there. and the sound they make when they go squish is icky. bleh =')

Personally I have never understood why other girls get so frightened about bugs. I've never had issues with bugs. I'm one of those who captures them and let them go. I think that being frightend is just part of being a girl, but then again I know plenty of guys who won't go around bugs either. I supose that it just has to do with fear. And that's all that it ever will.

i think of so, too. Grade 4- 5. the boys in my undemanding classification started this booty- hitting interest in grade 4. It wasn't out of disgust..extra decide to get our interest....to be chased by way of the girl. This develop into in Germany. although my son's pal will start up grade 5 after summer, and he constantly says that he hates women. My son does not think of that way in any respect...he never ever did. So, there are some exceptions, yet i think of around 10 years of age could be a competent estimate.

I love bugs...and I wouldn't squish them. I usually pick them up with something and take them outside so they can be free!!!! And yes...our culture does portray women this way. I would like to think of it as the mook and the midriff.

It's because we are looking for a strong man like you to save us. I for one am not afraid of bugs unless they bite. I have taken many a spider outside in a dixie cup. I don't like it when they jump though and sometimes I do scream but I get him in the end.

Depends on if Mom was fufu feminine and couldn't walk the dog without hair and makeup on. get real, most of us now are more used to jeans, engine oil, and dirt then 20 years ago, but some just get grossed out easy.

Considering the size of any human to any bug...I dont know why girls get freaked out either. I'd only freak out if they looked at me and challenged me to a duel.

I believe it is mainly a act to get us guys to pay attention and to come to their rescue. I love their act.

My wife says she keeps me around to kill bug and fix things.
