probably head gasket, however that can ruin a converter. white is always steam.

Usually white smoke means you have a blown head gasket. If it is a blown head gasket it will glog your cat conv. My suggestion is to get a compression test done after you get that done I bet you, you will have your question answered by the mechanic inspecting your vehicle.

No, white smoke is a sign of coolant being burned up into and thru the exhaust. Usually a leaking head gasket or cracked head. Are you low on coolant but no visible leaks? How does it run? Are you overheating? A clogged cat emits black smoke and gives off that rotten egg smell.
