I think the most important quality is passion for your subject matter. People will listen if they believe that you're excited about your subject.
Connect with your audience (stories, visuals, the way you dress are all important). Speak clearly and well. No one wants to listen to you if they can't understand what you're saying. Be creative. Get people involved emotionally, intellectually. Be humble-there are people out there who know more about your subject matter than you do-on the other hand, speak confidently-look at people, make sure you can be heard.
