I've done plenty of regualr cross-stitch patterns but this is my first time using waste canvas. I'm using it to add Christmas designs to shirts. The book I have says to "cut a piece of lightweight, non-fusible interfacing same size as canvas to provide a firm stitching base" then after stitiching it says to "Baste canvas and interfacing to garment. Dampen canvas slightly to remove sizing". Help!

I usually pin the waste canvas onto the garment, then baste it on with long, loose stitches and remove the pins. The basting stitches can be removed when you're done cross-stitching. I've used waste canvas many times, including on sweatshirts and other things that get a lot of wear, and I've never used interfacing. The stitching seems to hold up quite well without it.

I just baste the waste mesh canvas where I want to cross-stitch and proceed normally. Then when I'm done I remove the waste canvas. Since I hate to assume, to baste means to attach using long, loose stitches so they will be easy ro remove. If need be you can cross-stitch right over the basted stiches. good luck
