I am in the same boat. I am going to be 50 soon, and I have a great deal of knowledge to offer an employer. I bring a phenomenal work ethic, and attention to detail that many younger employees do not share. For instance, when did it become acceptable to be 5, 10 or more minutes late to work? I always arrive ready to work early so I can prepare for my day. Now, everyone I work with comes in late and leaves early. And that is the norm. Older workers have much maturity, intellect, experience and ethics to bring to a job. We should not be discounted because we have gray hair. The biggest issue is age discrimination. No matter what, once the prospective employer sees how old I am, I can't get hired. They can make up any excuse to avoid a discrimination charge.
