Okay I think you guys proved me wrong. The dill pickle is definitely priceless. I'm sure one of the great skills that one can develop is working through/around the stuff one's not interested in while leaving room for others to appreciate what they wish.

Like others have mentioned, it's relatively easy to ignore the "garbage" questions or answers. I'm not really as concerned about whether or not the Q&A's are garbage, though--what gets me the most is when people ask questions solely for the sake of either making people angry (and then seeing their reactions), asking for answers to entire homework assignments, or basically just being a bit idiotic under the guise of "not knowing any better." For instance, if I see one more question about why x group of people perform x activity, and why x group cannot do this because they're not the other x group...it's like some people don't have an outlet to spew this sort of stereotype-ridden nonsense anywhere else, so they come on here and just act like fools.

But when things aren't like that? This medium is an excellent resource. I guess some bad seeds will fall in every part of society...

It isn't so much the "garbage questions" that irritate me. It's the lack of writing skills and spelling that really get to me. There have been instances where I simply couldn't make out what the question was/is.
Do they not teach writing and spelling in school anymore?
Know what? If what I see here is any indication of the future, the English language is in big trouble.

Garbage is a relative term. But even though the non-preferential juxtaposition of relative worth and worthlessness precludes a perfect buffet of timeless wisdom, there still exist diamonds in the roughage of this, the yahooian status quo.

I have. Over in genealogy they ask the same questions 4-12 times a day;

How do I do genealogy for free?
(Which means they want to enter their name and get a 12-generation tree, with a family coat of arms for each surname. When we tell them a decent family tree takes as much research work as a term paper, they think we're holding out on them.)

What is the origin / meaning of {surname}?
(Which means they haven't read the resolved Q, which have a dozen links to name origin sites.)

my BF, he beat me and cheat me but I luv him 2 much 2 leave him, wat shud i do?
(Which means the concept of "Category" isn't firmly established in some people's minds; neither is the concept of "being used by a sex-hungry man with the morals of an alley cat and a taste for women with IQ's the same as room temperature - in a cold day".)

if a chicken and a half can lay an egg and a half in a day and a half, how long will it take for a grasshoper with a wooden leg to kick all the seeds from a dill pickle......

I totally disagree... since I have received answers to things I needed answers to, and since I've provided thoughtful answers to questions, I think this forum is much more useful than the trash that sits out at the curb once a week!

it depends, on which catigory is your consern. I used to save my time and ignore Q&A which are garbage.

There is a certain amount of garbage, but I don't think it's 99%. If you think so, why bother even signing on? I just skip the ones I think are "garbage." (Good euphemism.)
