it depends on what kind of hot dog you are talking about.
For an all beef hotdog you are talking about ground up beef parts...
It's all edible beef.

Well, your basic hot dogs are made from beef, chicken AND/OR pork. They are made from the parts that are not sold in your grocer's meat section - the scraps. Remember - NO part of a chicken, pig, or beef cattle are wasted.
Other varieties of hot dogs are made with scraps from specific parts of the animal.

If they're beef then all the leftover scraps of beef.
If they're a non all beef then add the scraps of chicken or pork (sometimes both).
If they plumb then that company adds Venison aka Deer meat.
If they're kosher beef then the cow was killed humanly or natural causes.

They are made of all different parts of the animal...be it chicken or beef. They grind all the parts together and they die the meat to make it all look the same then they put it into the tube...and theres your hot dog!

Junk stuff like various animal organs etc. That's why I don't eat it. Hot dog eaters have succumbed to genious marketing.

You might be a little surprised, having visited meat packing plants and seen the processed. After meat is ground up, it's injected into casing (usually intestine). One package states: pork, pork fat, sugar, salt, soybeans, wheat, sodium nitrite, sodium erythrorbate (whatever hell that is...LOL), etc.
