To eat well during pregnancy you must do more than simply increase how much you eat. You must also consider what you eat. Although you need about 300 extra calories a day — especially later in your pregnancy, when your baby grows quickly, those calories should come from nutritious foods so they can contribute to your baby's growth and development.

I found out that I had gestational diabetes when I was 5 months along and so my doctor put me on a diabetic diet of 1800 calories
I know the thought of a diet is scary but it is safe for the baby If you start the 1800 calorie diet early on in the pregnancy your baby will be normal size and healthy Since it was not caught until later on in my pregnancy my son weighed 8 pounds and 14 ounces at birth ( c section because his head was too big from the ultrasound pictures) and he had breathing problems ( the doctor told me that he had underdeveloped lungs caused from my having gestational diabetes)

everyones total calorie intake per day is different to begin with..you need to look up what is healthy for your height and add 300-500 per day..but not too many because the more you gain the more you will have to lose
