Ballet Folklorico is the most traditional dance troupe in Mexico. However, I don't doubt that other countries (Spanish-speaking, I guess) could have their own "Ballet Folklorico" since this refers mainly to specialized folk dancing.

They originated when the INBA (Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes) wanted to reunite the hundreds of Mexican folk dances and train a good troupe to dance them. Why? Because it is a spectacle to behold and they internationally represent the country so well. Mexico prides iself on its culture so it does invest in good representations of it. This is what the INBA is in charge of doing and the Ballet Folklorico is an example of it.

Hope this helps!
