I've had a surgery recently where the general anesthesia was used. What makes me worried is that a week has passed already (since the surgery) and I am experiencing some memory problems that I have never had before. It's getting really annoying. Does anybody know if general anesthesia has any impact on memory?

if its the first week or two after your surgery i wouldnt worry about it, i had the same problems, as a matter of fact my husband says i had to keep asking him what the date was over and over, i still dont remember a lot of things from right after surgery, but if it goes on longer than that and u are unable to retain new info and are still forgetting (not including things that happened right after surgery, but things that are going on in the current time frame) then i would consult your doctor, give it another week before you get too concerned, everyone is affected by anesthesia differently also to reasure you its completely normal at this point, i've recovered from my memory loss phase and my surgery was 3 wks ago

it does indeed, the anesthesia in your body can cause you to feel sleepy, and loose memory for some time, but it shouldnt be that long afterward, i strongly suggest you contact your surgeon or a doctor about this, it is very important that if ANY problems are experienced after surgery, you see to it that they are adressed, just because surgery is routine, doesnt mean it is 100% safe. I'm sure you'll be fine, but better safe than sorry.

Ask in case you may get a spinal morphine anesthesia. I had that for a hysterectomy, & it become completely astonishing, The morphine wears off slowly & I on no account needed something for discomfort, no longer even Tylenol!!! i become sleepy, yet no longer groggy, & there become no memory loss in any respect. i'm extraordinarily petrified of having a popular so I genuinely have had 7 diverse surgical procedures w/locals of one type or yet another, & have on no account ahd any issues in any respect. look into it, & superb of success.

one of the properties of GA is tat it causes amnesia. but thats only during the procedure.. jus give it some time. if it still persists, go bak to that same anaesthesiologist and ask him for the details.
