Here's a structure for the war in Asia for you to work with

18 September, 1931- Japanese troops guarding the South Manchurian Railway manufacture a terrorist attack and use it as a pretense to occupy the Chinese province of Manchuria. Movement towards the creation of the puppet state begin.

July 1937- Undeclared war erupts between the Chinese state and the Japanese Empire.

December 1937- Japanese troops capture Nanking and commence a brutal and bloody purge of the city now known as the "Rape of Nanking"

26 July, 1939- The US notifies Japan of the cancellation of the Commercial Treaty which is the start of Roosevelt's plan to "quarantine" Japan.

7 December 1941- The Imperial Fleet launches an attack on the American naval base at Pearl Harbour. This is soon followed by offensives launched against British targets at Hong Kong and Singapore, the invasion of the Dutch East Indies (modern Indonesia), and the invasion of the Phillipines. Declared war begins between Japan and the United States, Britain, and allies.

May 1942- The Allies stop the Japanese advance in the Coral Sea. The threat of an invasion of Australia is now considered minute.

June 1942- The American Fleet delivers a heavy blow to the Japanese carrier fleet at Midway.

August 1942- The American counter-attack begins at Guadacanal

Febuary 1945- Battle for Iwo Jima- Once the stiff resistance is defeated and infrastructure is set up, the USAF is able to conduct bombing raids against the main islands of Japan

April 1945- Okinawa- Once secured, the USAF capacity to conduct heavy bombing is established.

August 1945- In the first week of August a firebombing campaign on Tokyo kills upwards of 150,000. This is followed on August 6 by the first nuclear bomb dropped on Hiroshima which kills upwards of 40,000 and another on Nagasaki on August 9 killing upwards of 32,000.

2 September 1945- The Japanese surrender is recieved aboard the USS Missouri.

28 March 1942: a Commando raid on St. Nazaire cripples the only German-held dry dock on the Atlantic seaboard which would have been big enough to take the "Tirpitz". She therefore stays in Norway, taking no part in the crucial "Battle of the Atlantic" to convoy Lease-Lend war supplies to Britain, which finally turns in the Allies' favour later in 1943.

4 June 1942: Battle of Midway. Admiral Nimitz, with one serviceable aircraft carrier and the patched-up "Yorktown", takes on and sinks the four biggest carriers in the Japanese fleet. Although he loses the Yorktown, the battle has thoroughly avenged Pearl Harbour and put an end to Japanese naval power in the Pacific.

23 October 1942: Battle of El Alamein in North Africa, turning point of the war in the West. With the eventual defeat of Rommel, the allies took control of the Mediterranean and soon invaded Sicily and Italy to threaten the Axis powers on yet another front.

Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated, not the Kaiser! Then as a result two piss-ant Baltic countries declared war on each other, and because of all the alliances between different European countries (saying one HAD to go to war if the other did) all of Europe exploded in warfare. Some people say WWII was just an extension of WWI, and Hitler who was a soldier in WWI did it just to get revenge for the first defeat. The Treaty of Versaille led to the poverty that made WWII possible.
