Lymph nodes are behind your throat which are part of ur immune system and when viruses come into ur body, they swell up to produce lymphocytes that help destroy viruses and bacteria

well, I think it's because of the lymph nodes near our throats... I'm not quite sure why, but I remember my teacher mentioning the lymph nodes getting soar when getting a cold...
