I don't feel like chatting, gossiping, sharing recipes, listening to thier stories, or just even socializing. I'm not mad, I just feel like being quiet, doing my job and going home. I usually pretty social. Is there a nice way to get this across, or do I just need to fake it and yack yack yack???

I always say, "I'm pacing myself." in a mysterious, humorous, Sherlock Homes kinda way...they usually leave me be, no harm done...

Probably the best thing you can do is just be kind, but maybe give brief answers to questions; don't volunteer any info about anything; keep quiet till spoken to. But make sure ppl realize you're not angry or upset--smile at them and do greet them...but if you keep your end of the conversation short and to the point and look otherwise busy, ppl will probably get the point that you're just not sociable today. :)

Bring a book or newspaper to breaks and lunch. During the workday, just politely tell them you're really busy right now.

I'm with you. I'd rather read a good book than put up with the blah blah blah.

I think you could tell them you've got a sick relative and need to get out of work as early as possible and therefore need to buckle down. They should get the idea. If it is only a day or two that will work, of course, you can't have sick relatives every week, so if you need more frequent relief, you might be in trouble...good luck to you!

Definitely do not fake it. You should tell them you're busy and you have to finish the work now. They'll get the point after you say that a couple times.

I get like that too. I don't mean to be rude and antisocial, sometimes I just wanna be left alone. Just tell them that you're tired or have a headache. If they don't get the point, just plop your head down and pretend to snore. ZzZzZ!

Just tell them that you don't feel like socializing. If they are humans, they would understand that life can be painfully stressful and that we sometimes need our own space...
