Guess what? They're more likely to face hardships in some "developed" countries, too... such as the US. Big surprise?

I think the reason they face more hardships is that responsibility for and care of children generally falls to the women, who must add that to the responsibility of caring for themselves, while also bearing the physical burden of pregnancy, labor, birth and recovery, during which she is mostly less able to work than a person not going through these things. Given that while going through P,L,B and R she sometimes also has the sole care of children, who suffer for lack of sufficient attention and therefore don't develop to their fullest potential, and thus are unable to be maximum contributors themselves when the time comes, and you can see how the situation could easily get out of hand.

Health care, access to jobs or education, social norms or edicts either culturally or religiously, legal rights... all these things are usually compromised when it comes to women and in developing countires. Just as it was in most Western countries, women are usually the last to gain equal rights.

My politics professor always used to say that a government designed to care for a single, pregnant female would be best equipped to deal with all of it's citizens.
