MAKE A DEAL WITH YOURSELF...EVERYTIME YOU GET SOMETHING NEW, GET RID OF SOMETHING OLD. THEN YOU NEVER RUN OUT OF SPACE.

I would suggest that every time you use something and finish with it put back where it belongs. Keep a hamper in your room and put the dirty clothes there, and every day take it to the wash room (where the washer and dryer are). After your clothes are clean hang them (I don't iron). Jeans is you think you will were them more than once, hang them. It will take a few days to get everything organize, but if you want to you can do it. Throw away things you don't use. Or put them in a box, marked the box and pt it in the garage. Just try little by little you will get where you can invite any one to your room without being worried about it.
And I can tell you a little secret, probably your friend made fun of your room because their room might be worse. So don't sweat it.

Start with sorting things into 3 piles (trash, keep, give away). Throw away all obvious clutter. Give away anything that is useable - but is just getting in the way of things you really value - do not keep anything that you plan to use but really probably won't. Keep only things that you love and/or use.

Second, make sure all the things you keep has a location. If there is not room to store it - perhaps you need shelves, etc. or consider how much you really "love" it.

Third, if anything comes into your room, decide what item it will take the place of and that item needs to go out.

It is like or comparable to the quitting smoking.. If you want to quit, you MUST want to quit first..and if you want to keep your room clean.. you MUST want to keep it clean first and then set your goal to that end
