The very best way to become less shy is to talk more. It is hard for shy people to talk sometimes but if you make yourself do it you will find that people will respond to what you say. They will get to know you better and find your conversations interesting. You will be glad that you did. Tell your friend I said good luck!

This could be a tough place for you and your friend to be in....Breaking out of ones shell is very easy for some and extremely hard and scary for others. You see, some people are born extroverts ( outgoing and talkative ) and some are born introverted ( self-involved and shy ) and as you can imagine all of us are effected by this in varying degrees.
Be patient with your friend and when the situations become comfortable they more likely than not will open up and start to break out of their shy comfort zone. It takes time and a good friend will help by not being too pushy about it....
Good luck and take care =)

Why does he want to be more outgoing?
Maybe he just needs to feel more confident about being shy... there is nothing bad with it. If he accepts himself he will be happier.

Just go out more and try to hang around different groups more, and he will eventually become less shy.

you have to make an effort. i speak from experience when i say that i know its hard to talk to the opposite sex when you have failed so many times before. but tell your friend that there is someone out there for everyone but they wont just fall in your lap you have to get put your heart and pride on the line and just keep in mind that your only as beautiful as you appear to be to yourself.

You risk, put yourself out there, open up, share, take chances, be the first to talk when with a stranger, trust, be yourself, ask questions, and be fearless.
