Last week, i left my digital camera at a restaurant in the bay area, forgot it and went away. 3 hours later, i remembered, went back and enquired at the restaurant. But they claim that they have asked everyone, but they don't know about it.
What recourse do i have now, since i am positive i left it there ?

YOU were the one who was negligent in leaving your property there. They did not in any way have any responsibility for it. They never had possession of your camera. You left it unattended in a restaurant, where people were in and out. Anyone could have take your camera.

You messed up. You forgot your camera. You have to take responsibility for your own mistakes. There is no one to blame here but yourself.

Quelle dommage.

Recourse? You buy a new camera and make sure that the little lanyard thing is around your wrist at all times.

Of course, you could hire Bruno and Tony and go back to the restaurant with them and ask the host for your camera back while they held him six inches off the ground by his tie.

Seriously. The restaurant has no liability. It's a given that if you are careless, then it's on you. You have no idea if someone at the restaurant or another patron found it. In court, you'd never prove liability.

It's a hard lesson and one that you probably won't forget.

None. You have no proof that you left it there or that one of the staff took it. The person at the next table could have easily grabbed it. Just consider it a lesson learned. You might try putting an ad on the Craigslist San Fran lost and found section just in case, but I wouldn't count on getting it back.

None. The restaurant is not responsible for items you lost. Even if you know they have. That's too bad. I bet you won't do that again. Chop it up as a lesson learned.

You have no recourse. It may have been taken by a customer or an employee but they have no responsibility for your belongings.

Nothing. You can't prove that you left it there. The business is not held accountable.
