In the end, it really won't matter much. I mean, it's not like they decided to use women who weighed 500 pounds, right? Spain didn't do anything great and wondrous, they simply took a baby step in the right direction.

Let's not forget our body-size history, shall we? Body size is nothing more than an indicator of wealth and power. In our day and age, being thin is a sign of wealth and power. Thin people have the money to eat right and buy memberships to gyms or buy the gym equipment. Thin women are the ones who hold places of power in corporations. Thin women are held to be beautiful. Fat women are looked upon as lazy good-for-nothings who spend every waking moment eating. No one realizes that eating well costs money. Gym memberships cost money. Fat women are held to be ugly and worthless. The smaller the woman, the more precious she is. That's how our society works.

In the Middle Ages, that wasn't so. Fat women were looked upon with awe and admiration. Fat women had money and power. A fat woman had money to eat, she was usually connected to a royal family (that's how she had access to money), and she was far less likely to die in childbirth. Thin women were held to be disposable. They were kitchen drudges, maids, peasants, and laborers. A thin woman was a poor woman because she didn't have the money to eat. A thin woman was more likely to be a lowly commoner. The larger the woman, the more precious she was. That's how their society worked.

My point is, body size is nothing more than a fashion itself. What Spain did was a token gesture at best.

I agree with it there is a big difference in being thin and bony. Young women don't need to see these starved looking women being praised it's ridiculous. They need to bring out more model like Tyra Banks, Cindy Crawdford, Naomi Campbell who are all thin but have some curves.

i don't really know. because really, its a model's job to be skinny... otherwise designers don't want to use them. but, on the other hand it doesn't send out a healthy message.
all in all, i doubt it will accomplish much. our society is already full of crazy images, and deciding to ban some things and not others won't do a lot. really, we need to blow up eveything and start over in order to redefine our body image issues and all of our problems in general

I think it is fabulous! Skin stretched over bones is not attractive nor should it be what young girls should feel pressured to look like. Some models and movie stars look like concentration camp survivors. It is shameful and disgusting.

It's about damn time. Some women are naturally thin, but that one chick that's like 6 feet tall and is a size 2.... that's ridiculous.
