Oak, hickory, maple (not silver maple), dog wood, birch (not river birch), or just about any hard wood. Do not burn walnut, poplar, cherry, or cedar. Two of those can have poisonous fumes, the others "pop" and will send sparks out any time.

we use to have a......warm morning wood burner and it was pretty good,warming 5 room,of course it had a blower on it.
