it's usually that restaurant's first sale...like a dollar bill or whatever denomination, usually in a frame. the first sale they made the day they opened their doors to the public.

Frist dollar made. There was a restaurant that people really liked, people would sign dollar bills, owner would hang on the wall, everyone enjoyed doing this. When u came back u could always find your dollar, even put them on ceiling. Great food,drinks & people.

I used to be a bartender and all the money we had on the wall at our bar was from the first week the bar was open...they were tips...some places put them up with their patron's names on them so their patrons can say they were some of the first to ever visit the establishment. Other places put them up for decoration, or just so they can say "Hey look! We have money on the wall!" LOL
