You have to develop a friendship it is the only way to find out if he is g0y also you could ask him about how he feels about the krush technique then show him what it is about if he doesn't know what it is.

Well when u said flirting you should have describe little bit about it, like what he has done or said. any way its kind of tricky with these jocky boys. I am not sure if you guys r friends or what but if you guys sit together or are friends someday when you two r by yourself just randomly talk about gay issuse. for example: you can just say that you read in a paper some thing about homosexuality or you can just talk about some book that has gay character to it. that would sort of tell you how he feels about homosexuality stuff. if he talks like typical jock boys you would know he is either in denial or is str8 but if he is sensitive and mature about the conversation then you would just have to make a wild guess based on wat you know. once again just keep it mind don't judge him to criticaly people don't like being judge. and also don't spread any rumors about him either. if you think he is gay just remember he could use a friend.
