My stupid science teacher likes to give us homework that doesn't even have answers in our book or anything then she wont help us. This stupid crossword puzzle has me stumped! I need:
1. structure that converts solar energy into chemical energy
(- - - - - - - - - s -)
2. Tiny structure that performs a specialized function in a cell
(o- - - - - - - -)
3. Large Dark structure that contains the chromosomes
(- - - - - - s)

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated...even if it's just a website with some information.
God Bless

My guesses are

1) chlorophyll
2) organelles
3 nucleus

Suggestion: go to a public library, and check out a college level book on biology, it is more complete, and better written than the high school texts, and not any more difficult. Reading it will prepare you for college, as this class does not seem to be doing.

These answers are definitely in your textbook. Try and think about the clues a bit more...
For 1., think about the type of organism that converts solar energy and you come up with...plants. How do they do this? Choloroplasts. 2. This one is not intuitive because it's a general clue, so something that performs a specialized funtion is: Organelle. 3. There is only one structure that contains the chromosomes...think about the "information center" of the cell: Nucleus.
Biology can be very interesting and it is not too difficult if you have an understanding of the concepts. The cells and their organelles and corresponding functions are of particular importance and will come up again and again. It will be wise to study this more! Good luck.

Mel and Chris are correct.

Be careful how you call people stupid. It's really not a term to use lightly. It sounds like your science teacher is trying to develop your application skills, which means you have to take what you have already learned and apply it to a new and different question/situation. This is actually good for you. I hope your teacher really isn't stupid...then you are in for a rough year.

The point of asking questions that have no answers in the back of the book is to get the students to think for themselves. If you're that stumped, look in your notes or ask the teacher if she will give you a clue or something.
