Could be you are low on auto trans fluid, or the trans filter is clogged or the trans itself is slipping? How many miles on the truck?? Have you ever serviced the trans yet? when the engine warms up, the fluid expands and the level rises to a normal state. Check trans lines for leaks.
good luck.......

you have an automatic transmission.. the revving you are hearing is the transmission spinning frrely because the fluid pressure in the transmission is not high enough to support the higher gear until the fluid is hot enough and expands in volume. Have your transmission fluid level checked ... or even better have the transmission serviced...

I never knew Ford Explorer had manual transmission. At same time it has clutch plates seems to me low on tranny fluid if not then you might want to get ready for tranny overhaul.

It may be the EFI computer keeping the engine warm (I'm not completely sure).

Check transmission fluid, if it is full, then have the fluid changed. If that doesn't work then it is the torque converter.
