Field Marshall Bernard Law Montgomery, even if Patton and all the other generals hated him. He was a brilliant tactician, but also a thoroughly obnxious person. He drove Rommel across Africa. He planned the entire Normandy operation from the beaches to Paris. Paris was reached fifteen days sooner than planned. IMHO, he has been terribly maligned. How do you Brits feel about reading this from an American?

Too many to choose from but it would have to be a tie between Churchill and Thatcher.

Churchill saved Great Britain and the rest of the world when other leaders were quick to give up.

Thatcher and her uncompromising attitude against evil helped to bring an end to the Soviet Union.

Too bad we do not have leaders like these anymore

Sir Isaac Newton - the father of modern science and inventor of Calculus :-)

Not a very likable chap but drove science ever forward, influencing a great many others after him, helping to pave the way for the new era that was the Industrial Revolution.
