RE:
I can't find the pilot light on my gas furnace. Need to get it lighted. Help!?
I can find the other components and I've tried tracing the lines down but they end up in the far back of the furnance. When it was lit last year by a friendthe pilot seemed to be in the front.

It's probably behind a removeable panel in the front. If you see a protruding handle, you usually lift it up, pull the panel forward and then remove it by pulling downward. If it's an old furnace, you may have a separate valve for the pilot (called a "standing pilot"). You'll need to turn this valve on before lighting the pilot. If you're unsure, I'd recommend that you call your gas provider. They will usually light it for you for free or a nominal fee. Hope this helps!

There should be a door or removable panel on the front of your furnace. Open that or take it off. Look down at the bottom where the gas pipe comes in. There might be a second smaller panel that is held in place with one or two screws. Remove that to access the pilot light.
There should be instructions on a sticker somewhere on the outside of the furnace or inside that first door panel that you removed.
You will likely have to hold a button while lighting the pilot.

Yes, it will be toward the front. You should look for a shiney, tiny white colored pipe running to the burners. Or take a lighter with a long neck. Light the lighter place it near the burners and push in on the pilot button, after it lights hold it in for one minute, and then release it. When it stays lit turn the gas valve to on, set the thermostat to the desired temp.

Read the manual for the furnace or call the furnace company for advice. Don't try lighting it yourself without an expert opinion or you might cause more problems.

It probably is towards the front, that's where they usually are. Trace from the floor upwards, it will bend at an angle and then stop.
They are also usually directly above the pilot light swtich so that's a good landmark for you to start from.

Call your Gas company, or ask your friend again. This is not something to be fooling around with, When you do find out , Take a Luggage tag and right it on it so the next time this happens you will know. Just put the tag on or near the furnace.
