We are the Political Moderates !!!

"We Political Moderates are very diverse...
Some Moderates identify as Republicans, some as Democrats, and some have no particular political identity. Some of us don't pay much attention to politics, but others are Senators and sometimes even Presidents....we will vote for someone in the other party in a heartbeat if we like their values.... Some of us think of ourselves as quite traditional and conservative...Some of us are very religious, some less so, some not at all. We are not in your face about these things, and we do not want you in our faces. Some of us own guns, and some of us do not. The ones who own guns do not think everyone needs to have one, and the ones that do not are not trying to have their neighbor's guns taken away. We moderates are suspicious of certainty. We can have strong political opinions, but we are willing to listen to someone else's point of view as long as they are not trying to ram it down our throats or snooker us. We are proud of our Country but think that it is perfectly OK for people in other countries to be proud of theirs. We are not particularly interested in seeing America dominate the world. We believe neither in squeezing every bit of economic value out of the land as quickly as possible, nor banning all development everywhere. We do not particularly like people telling us that we have to do something or cannot do something, but we also know that giving free reign to anything anyone wants to do is a recipe for disaster. We have no problem at all with mandates or limits when the balance is right. We are fiscal conservatives in the older meaning of the phrase, from when being conservative meant not running up huge debts. We believe that there is a place for moderation in American politics. In fact, we think that Moderation is America's greatest political tradition. We assign the title Great to Presidents who exemplified balance, moderation, and tolerance, Presidents like Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower. We do not like people from either extreme of the political spectrum to put words in our mouths. We do not yell at them when they try this, but we might just laugh at them behind their backs! Moderates do not band together for political conventions, party headquarters, mass mailings, buttons with faces on them, lawn signs, or fund-raising calls at dinnertime. For one thing, we are too busy living our lives to spend time coming up with these things. And we really do not need them. Extremists from both sides of the spectrum assume that Moderates are sheep to be led around by the nose, right up to the point when we surprise them by being smarter than they think."

Moderates, which are usually the most!

People seem to think labels like conservative or liberal have a whole hell of a lot of meaning, with the exception of ideologues and people like Bush!

I am almost always classified a liberal, though I am an Independent pragmatist! I even have some conservative views! I used to be a conservative until Vietnam (My 8 years active) and worked with the poor for 27 years! I have also taken graduate classes in economics and business and I went to a degreed nursing school. I also have a BS degree from a university!

My father, a career army officer, was a liberal! I think he saw enough in WWII (3rd Division), Korea(7th Division) during the war and as an advisor in south Vietnam in the late '50's!

I have seen most sides up close and personal! They are not regurgitation's I get from the media so I don't have to think!

I agree with the above person who indicates the middle is being wiped out! Thanks George!!

I call the middle "the forgotten majority". Politically, centrist or moderate works. Some, including myself, use both terms. I am socially liberal/fiscally conservative.

Libertarian IS NOT Republican in disguise. True Libertarians believe in liberty, first and foremost. The word "liberal" is derived from "liberty". Some Republicans are perverting the word, like they pervert the true meaning of the word "conservative".

Because people calling themselves conservatives lately are huge fans of revisionist history. I mean, these guys try to claim that fascism was a liberal movement! And, that Lincoln was a conservative! It's laughable. Until you consider how many of them have voted TEA Baggers into congress.

You can call them Conservative Democrats, Liberal Republicans, Moderates. A Libertarian is basically a Republican in Disguise. You could always go Independant (but then again you are tossing your vote).

If you think the in between might be labled, "moderate" well you'd be wrong...

A moderate is just a liberal that doesn't want to admit it...
